What is a portfolio?

The aim of investing is to accumulate wealth in the form of assets. Among those assets, you’ll certainly want some which will grow in value, such as shares. But the potential for growth in value comes at a price—you’ll never be 100% certain which investments will perform well and which might turn out to be duds. How do you overcome this problem? By accumulating a portfolio. A portfolio is, quite simply, a collection of different investments.
