Why bother?

So, you’re not spending all of your income? Well, congratulations! You’re already ahead of the game. Few people manage to save money consistently, but there are good reasons to begin.

Most people want certain things to make life easier in the future. For example, you might want a holiday, a car, a good education for the kids, or the big one—a house to call your own. And even if you have already put something away for these things, there’s something else you should consider—your retirement. With Australia’s ageing population, the government has made it crystal clear that the age pension simply won’t provide for everyone in years to come. And many would argue that it doesn’t even do that now.

The answer, of course, is to save. Unless you win the lottery—and you could play more than eight million times and still not win the jackpot—you might just be making life more difficult than it needs to be. Now, we’re not about to tell you how to save (you just need to spend less than you earn) but we can help you decide how to put your spare cash to good use.
